Matthew Z. Bethell, MA, AMFT

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, Matthew works with a diverse range of clientele. He specializes in working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, impulse control, addiction, obsessive- compulsion, conflict in relationships, and grief. Maintaining an existential framework, Matthew views therapy as a collaborative process where transformation takes place through the pursuit of meaning, the development of courage, and the awareness of the relationship between freedom and responsibility.

Matthew’s approach is informed by a belief that human beings are intrinsically valuable, resilient, and capable of extraordinary change. While listening with unconditional positive regard, he helps others to align their actions and attitudes with their core values. His aim is to promote healing, self-discovery, and connection by facilitating honest discourse.

Matthew graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology. Prior to his work in Marriage and Family Therapy, he worked with children on the autism spectrum as an Applied Behavioral Analyst. In addition to counseling, Matthew has taught as an adjunct instructor at Fresno Pacific University, and California State University, Fresno.

Therapy is a place of freedom and discovery. This is where someone can delve into the deepest parts of themselves, without fear of judgment, and re-emerge with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
