FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) about LifeStyle Transformation:

1. I am overweight and can't get the weight off and if I do, I can't seem to keep it off. Do I really need a recovery program? Can I really by addicted to food?

The answer is yes. When we use food to numb or alter the way we feel, and cannot control it, even when we know it is affecting our health, our ability to move forward in some of the areas of our life that are important to us, and perhaps important relationships in our life then we have to consider addiction, or compulsive behaviors. Generally, there are reasons why we overeat- to deal with our emotional hunger! It's not a character flaw or a matter of will power... It's not about weight management. It's about pain management! But maybe there is another way. We know there is. Usually people need some help to make these kinds of changes. We are here to help.

2. Why does the program take 12 months?
As clinicians who have worked in the addiction recovery world for many years, we know from our own experience as well as from research, that recovery from compulsive behaviors takes several years for the most successful outcome. It needs a combined approach of psycho-education, exploration of the underlying issues through individual and group therapy and a 12-step program. Our program was designed by taking into account the uniqueness of compulsive eating issues and what we know about addiction recovery. These 12 months will give you tools, insights, and resources to help you work towards your best possible outcome.

3. What can I expect in the program?
Step 1- (6 weeks) A Commitment to My Personal Transformation
After an initial consult, you will  attend a series of 6-weekly classes to learn about the underlying issues of compulsive eating. You will create a Plan of Action for tyour Personal Transformation to use as you move through recovery. Spouses and significant others are invited to attend classes with the participants.

Step 2- (7.5 months) Implementing Transformative Changes
In this step, you will find a safe place to share your struggles and successes, find accountability in your recovery to stay on your Plan of Action, and begin to move the blocks that have kept you in an unhealthy relationship with food. You will continue working in the workbooks, gaining insights, tools and skills for a healthier life emotionally, physically and in your relationships. Additionally, you will work with a therapist individually, or as a couple, once a month.

Step 3- (3 months) Maintaining My Personal Transformation
Having experienced, or being in process of, your Personal Transformation during this final step you will continue your group and individual therapy, complete the 12-month series of workbooks and gain the skills you will need to maintain your transformation outside of the program.

4. What if I get to the end of the 12 months and I am still losing weight but feel the need for more support?
Participants have several options if they do not feel ready to move on. Continuing with the program, attending a 12-Step group in the community, staying connected with their therapy group for support after the program ends are all options. If you find yourself starting to slip later, you can also attend a Back on Track Retreat Weekend to help recharge your motivation to stay committed to your Personal Transformation.

5. I have heard that recovery programs are quite expensive. What options are there to help me pay for my program?
